Psique

An ancient myth tells how the god Eros was kidnapped by his mother Aphrodite to keep him away from his lover, the nymph Psique. Faced with Psique´s pleas to recover Eros, his mother demanded an impossible reward.

He should enter hell and steal from a chest the beauty of the goddess of the underworld Persephone, enemy of Aphrodite.

Before the gates of Hades, Psique transforms into a butterfly in order to pass without attracting attention and avoid all kinds of dangers Psique´s

The nymph Psique and her close relationship with immortality iconographically associated the image of the butterfly with the concept of the immortal soul.
